Am I Able to Use My HSA at the Dentist?

January 21, 2019

Money jar with medical expenses label. Most people use their health savings account (HSA) to pay for medical expenses like prescriptions, co-pays, and contact lenses. A great way to maximize your HSA or flexible spending account (FSA) is to pay for dental treatments!

HSA and FSA provide similar support; however, FSA funds expire at the end of every year. HSA funds roll over from year-to-year as long as you are spending your funds on expenses that apply to your particular account.

What Dental Treatments Can I Use My HSA for?

HSA and FSA funds can be spent on the following dental treatments:

  • Sealants
  • Cavity Fillings
  • X-Rays
  • Braces
  • Fluoride Treatment
  • Extractions

Unfortunately, these funds cannot be spent on cosmetic treatments like teeth whitening and cosmetic surgery. Unsure about whether your dental procedure is covered? Contact us and we will be happy to check!
