Sedation Dentistry

At Highlands Ranch Dental Group, our patients have sedation options available to them. These include nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and IV sedation.

Do You Hate Going to the Dentist?

nervous about the dentist

We get it, most of us don’t have a calendar to mark off every day that draws us closer to our dental appointment. At Highlands Ranch Dental Group, we recognize that feelings of anxiety are natural and that for some, these feelings are a serious problem that is hard to control.

It’s important to us that our patients don’t let their anxieties win by avoiding dental cleanings or other procedures. Sometimes, we treat patients who have stayed away from the dentist for years due to high levels of anxiety. The worst part is, these patients tend to need serious dental work that could have been avoided if they had simply kept up with their routine 6-month cleanings. Which would you rather endure? A cleaning, or having cavities filled all over your mouth?

Relax With Sedation Options

Our office offers three sedation options:

  1. Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): This is the most conservative option and it’s available for any procedure, even a regular cleaning. You can always ask us to administer nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, a colorless, gentle gas. One benefit to this option is that the effects wear off quickly, so you’ll be able to drive yourself home after your appointment.
  2. Oral Sedation: For this mild sedation method, you will take a pill that will help you relax prior to your appointment.
  3. IV Sedation: This is the heavy-hitter of the sedation methods. Choosing IV sedation will put you to sleep. You will be completely relaxed for your appointment.

Keep in mind that if you go the route of oral or IV sedation, you will need to have someone else available to transport you home after your procedure.
